Director of Product Design[2020-2024]

  • Led a team of ten UX designers and researchers responsible for the maintenance and evolution of our Dealerware platform (mobile & web applications) and Dealerware API portal.
  • Responsibilities: team hiring & career development, cross-functional partnerships, product & technical direction, web & mobile platform design direction, mentoring, discovery research, design workshops, design system management, and accessibility.
  • Grew the team from 2 to 10 members over 18 months, developing and promoting team members, partnering with PM, Engineering, Marketing, Customer Success, and C-level stakeholders, and elevating the level of design quality across all products.

Director of Software Design[2019-2020]

  • Led a team of four UX designers, working closely with cross-functional partners in Product and Engineering to design Poly Lens, a SaaS management platform for Poly devices.
  • NOTE: Poly was formed when Plantronics acquired Polycom in 2019. Poly was acquired by HP in 2022.

Principal UX Designer[2011-2018]

  • Led the design ideation and execution of mobile and enterprise software applications related to the headset business unit, including:
    • Plantronics Manager Pro, the industry-leading SaaS solution for enterprise UC device management and the first of its kind for the UC industry.
    • 10+ major releases of Plantronics Hub, desktop configuration software for USB and Bluetooth audio devices on Windows & Mac platforms (precursor to Poly Lens).
    • Multiple releases of Plantronics Hub mobile app (now Poly Lens on Android & iOS).
    • Plantronics Developer Connection, the organization's first customer facing API portal.
    • Find MyHeadset™ (Android), the company's first fully agile program and highest rated application.
  • Established and refined best practices for rapid prototyping in code (HTML/CSS/JS) to optimize design & development collaboration and facilitate QA testing.
  • Contributed to multiple design patents for portable communication products.

UX Design Manager[2009-2011]

  • Led a team of five internal designers, researchers, and contractors in the design and delivery of QuickBooks 2012, a $600 million/year flagship product in Intuit's portfolio.
  • Served as "player-coach", responsible for designing the first QuickBooks Calendar and improving the onboarding workflow, reducing the number of required steps from 19 to four.
  • Planned and executed onsite "Design Jams" with QuickBooks customers and cross-functional teams to identify unmet needs and transform results into features for the annual release.

Staff UX Researcher[2006-2009]

  • Planned and conducted user research initiatives and programs for the Healthcare and Small Business Websites teams, informing the direction of our SMB website-creation tools.
  • Authored peer-reviewed journal articles on the practice of prototyping with users' real data, and presented at the annual CHI conference in Florence, ITALY.
  • Authored multiple design patents for innovation related to cost of living estimation.

Senior UX Designer[2003-2006]

  • Co-led a team of four industrial designers, owning responsibility for the interaction design and user-research of the KitchenAid brand portfolio of countertop products (stand-mixer, toasters, blenders, griddles, slow-cookers, coffee-makers, etc.) and shipping over one dozen products during my tenure.
  • Conducted lab-based and in-context usability studies to evaluate and inform the design and ergonomics of kitchen countertop products.
  • Contributed to multiple design patents for innovative kitchen countertop products.

UX Researcher & Lab Manager[1999-2003]

  • Managed the UITS usability lab, external consulting contracts, and staff of five team members responsible for the design and evaluation of all enterprise software programs serving over 100,000 students, staff, and faculty across IU campuses.
